John Shaw, Sr. Found Dead
Near Car On Homer Rd.

The body of John Shaw, Sr., age 72 was discovered at 9:10 last night by two
young Homer couples at the rear of his car that was parked on the side of
the Homer Road.

Webster Parish Coroner Dr. Tom Richardson said Mr. Shaw had suffered a
stroke but could not say that was the cause of death as his face near the
exhaust of the vehicle and the motor was still running. Dr. Richardson said
Mr. Shaw may have suffocated as a result of the exhaust fumes.

The two couples were traveling west on the Homer Road, headed into Minden
when they saw Mr. Shaw's body laying near the rear of his automobile.

They returned to discover he was dead.

Law enforcement officials were contacted and Webster Parish Sheriff O.H.
Haynes, Jr., was among investigating officers.

The coroner was asked to rule in the death.

Mr. Shaw was the father of John Shaw, Jr. who is the owner and operator of
Shaw's Heating and Plumbing Company, located on Dixie Street in Minden.

Mr. Shaw was a retired farmer and had lived here for a number of years.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Green-Kleinegger Funeral Home
and were incomplete at press-time.

Shaw Rites
In Leton
2:30 Today

Funeral services will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Whitehall Methodist
Church in Leton, for John F. Shaw, Sr.

Officiating the services will be Dr. Ronald Prince of Minden. Burial will be
in the Whitehall Cemetery under the direction of Green-Kleinegger Funeral
home.

Survivors are his widow, one son John F. Shaw, Jr. of Minden; one daughter,
Mrs. Henry L. Thorpe, Sr., of Minden; two brothers, Chester Shaw of
Haynesville, La. and Dayton Shaw of Jackson, Miss; four sisters, Mrs. Lena
Smith of Haynesville, Mrs. E.P. Lewis of Cotton Valley, Mrs. Ethylene
Johnson of Lee, Mrs. Truman Sexton of Cotton Valley; three grandsons and
three great grandchildren.
