NORTHPORT | Boyce Lee Foster, Jr., age 82, of Northport, died March 18, 2006 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens.

His parents, Boyce Lee and Maudie Belle Foster, his sister, Mildred Cantrell, all of Arcadia (Spartanburg), South Carolina, and his first wife, Daphne Foster of Australia, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen Foster of Northport, Alabama; his daughter, Beverly June Foster of San Diego, California; his brother, Major William B. Foster, Sr. of Spartanburg, South Carolina; stepdaughters, Helen Curry of Northport, Alabama and Sally Heineke of Spanish Fort, Alabama; stepsons, Paul E. Chapman, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, William Chapman of Northport, Alabama, and Stephen Jay Chapman of Miami, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a myriad of nieces and nephews.

Boyce L. Foster, Jr. of Arcadia (Spartanburg), South Carolina enlisted in the Army after Pearl Harbor in 1942 to fight in World War II. After returning from the war, he joined the Navy for a combined career of 30 years in the military. In the Navy, Mr. Foster served as a boatswains mate, first class in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retiring from the Navy, Boyce was employed at the VA Hospital in San Diego for 15 years.

After nearly 40 years of marriage, Mr. Foster's first wife, Daphne Foster, passed away in San Diego. Boyce moved to Northeast Texas where he met Mary Helen Chapman who had also lost her mate of many years. Both in their seventies, the two were married in Tuscaloosa and joyfully started life anew. They thoroughly enjoyed their travels from east coast to west coast, from Florida to Alaska. Their lives together were filled with a zest for living that embraced their combined families, their friends, and their mutual love and devotion for the Lord Jesus Christ. Northport, Alabama has been home for most of their eight years together where they have been active members of Central Church of Christ.

Pallbearers will be Paul E. Chapman, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Stephen Jay Chapman of Miami, Florida, William Chapman of Northport, Alabama, Daren Farmer of Houston, Texas, David A. Heineke of Spanish Fort, Alabama, and Derrick Jones of Nashville, Tennessee.
