Tom Turner was a successful businessman. Tom's first wife Lula and child died at childbirth or soon after. Before his marriage to Lida Jack, Feb.14, 1911, he was in liquor business, which he sold after their marriage. He had a soda pop business in Paris and nearby towns, Big Tom Bottling Works, fruit drinks. He had opportunity to buy into Coca-Cola in Dallas which he declined to do. His wife Lida told she was very glad because she did not want to be a millionaire! (of Church of Christ background and very frugal.)

Tom had known Lida when a young girl, being 12 years her senior. After marriage he teased her that she sat on his lap before they married. He had visited in her home as Lida Jack's mother Maggie, married William Moore, after Maggie's 1st husband A.R. Jack died. William Moore was a cousin of Tom's, (both were grandsons of Leven Moore.)

Tom had a great sense of humor and liked to tease when Lida was getting dressed, "oh come right on in, Preacher!" which made her jump and run in a hurry. Daughter Lida, told, if constipated, he sang the old hymn, "I shall not be moved." He was strong physically and able to help push big soda pop trucks out of mud if stuck, yelling "ooley-booley" as he had heard circus men yell to elephants when they helped put up circus tents.

He chose to be baptized as an adult, and in a church service when the preacher asked, "who will come be baptized?" He yelled out, "Here's One!" and hurried down the church aisle. His daughter told this likely relieved him of guilt feelings he had over having shot a brother-in-law in self-defense.

Tom died of liver disease a yr. after his 1st grandson, Tom, was born. All three grandchildren agree they wished they could have known him, such a special personality.
