In his early life he was noted in lumber camps for breaking jams and driving logs on the Racquett River. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps making it his life. He retired as a Major. He was the recipient of many military awards and was beautifully buried with military honors. Augustus died the results of a car accident.
