CLINTON - Dr. William Walton Kitchin, 79, of 505 Coharie Drive, died November 27, 1994, in Sampson County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be Tuesday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Clinton Cemetery. Dr. Kitchin was born September 29, 1915 in Scotland Neck. The son of the late Thurman Delna and Rebecca Calvert Clark Kitchin.
He graduated in 1936 from Wake Forest College and from Jefferson Medical College in 1940. He served his internship at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Kitchin entered the United States Army in 1941 and served with the 82nd Airborne Division in the European Theater until 1945.
After his military service, he did his surgical training at Duke University Hospital. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgery. He practiced one year at Asheboro with his brother-in-law, George Joyner. Dr. Kitchin came to Clinton in 1950, where he practiced general surgery until 1985. He served on the Sampson County Board of Education from 1954 until 1974. After his retirement from medicine, he was very active with Sampson Community College and served as the first President of the College Foundation. He was a Director Emeritus for Carolina Telephone and Telegraph.
He served on the board of Trustees of Wake Forest College and was the president of its Alumni Association 1959-1960.
Dr. Kitchin is survived by his wife, Nancy Brewer Kitchin of Clinton; sons, Samuel Wait Brewer Kitchin of Clinton, William Walton Jr. of Greenville; daughter, Clark Kitchin Larson of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Sampson Community College of Sampson County Memorial Hospital. The family will receive friends at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Clinton.
