Tabitha Bowen was the daughter of William Bowen (b. 1744 Augusta County, Va., d. December 15, 1804, Sumner County, Tn.) and Mary Henley Russell (b. 1760 d. 1815 Sumner County, Tn). She married Armistead Moore about 1796 in Smith County, Tennessee and had at least 10 children; Alexander (married Jane Smith Boyce), Robert (married Mary Baugh), William Bowen (married Kate Douglass, then married Nancy Gordon, he died in Fayette County, Texas), Samuel Bowen (married Mary A. Hornbeck), John Henry (married Eliza Cummins and moved to La Grange, Texas), Bird (married Sarah Eveline Jones and moved to La Grange, Texas), Armistead Jr. (married Mary W. Crenshaw, then Louisa B. Crenshaw), Frances Bowen (married an Unknown Hardwick, then an Unknown Harrison), and Catherine (married Francis Haynes Gordon). Tabitha's father was Captain William Bowen of Sumner County, Tennessee, who received this property by revolutionary land grant of 640 acres on November 20, 1784.
