Suzanne B. Shorts, 93, died October 20, 2010 in South Burlington, Vermont.

Suzanne was born in Huntington, WVA on 2/18/1917 to Inez Batson and Captain Matthew A. Batson, who died 1/15/1917. Shortly after Suzanne was born her mother and 2 older brothers returned to the family homestead in Manchester, CT where Suzanne lived most of her life. Suzanne had been employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 11 years and then became a Real Estate Broker for 17 years, associated with J. Watson Beach Co. of West Hartford, CT.

Suzanne was active in community affairs. She was a founding member of the Manchester Historical Society, a member of the Republican Town Committee, Republican Women's Club, Manchester Hospital Women's Auxiliary, Board President for the Porterfield Condominium Association and life member of the New England Air Museum. She was appointed and served on the Town of Manchester's Commission for the Disabled, Board of Tax Review, and the Planning and Zoning Board.

Suzanne loved to play cards, travel and spend time with her family. She visited Spain, England, Yugoslavia, Hawaii, Figi, Iceland, California, Cape Cod, Rhode Island, Florida, Arizona, and the Bahamas.

She is survived by her son, Arthur B. Shorts and his wife, Anita, of Davenport, FL; daughter, Pammella Starbuck and her husband, George, of Grand Isle, VT; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 great- great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband of 50 years, Arthur M. Shorts; and her brothers, Matthew and Burnham Batson and their wives. Suzanne will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to thank Pillsbury Manor North in Vermont and their staff for their caring attention, support and constant friendship. In addition, the family would also like to thank Dr. Anne Knott, Dr. Ann Goering, and the hospice nurses and staff at the Visiting Nurse Association of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday October 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 285 West Center Street, Manchester, CT. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday October 23, 2010 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center Street, Manchester, CT. Burial will be in the Town of Manchester's East Cemetery.
