Verlyn Leo Hancock, age 68, of rural Jacksonville, MO, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010, at approximately 10:15 am at his home. He was born June 11, 1942, at Spencer, Iowa the son of Theodore Leo and Cleo Lavonne Malm Hancock. On June 20, 1963, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Bentch in Huntsville, MO. She survives. Verlyn is survived by five children: Sherry Lanpher and husband Pat, Jerry Hancock, James Hancock and wife Michelle all of Duncan?s Bridge, MO, Michael Hancock and wife Faith of Paris, MO, and Jeanne Collins and husband Chuck of Columbia, MO; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister: Vickie Gallop and husband Trot, five brothers: Jimmy Hancock and wife Marian, Bob Hancock and wife Joann, Terry Hancock and wife Bernie, Don Hancock and wife Patricia, and Bill Hancock and wife Jodi. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Cleo Hancock. Verlyn graduated from Clarence High School in 1960 and was a Methodist by faith. He belonged to the Thunderbird Coon Hunters Association and the United Mine Workers Union. He retired from AECI Mine Workers and later worked at the Moberly School Bus Barn. He enjoyed coon hunting and raising pheasants and game birds. His greatest love was being with family and friends and especially his grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at the Monroe Chapel in Duncans Bridge, MO. Burial in the Phillips Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 pm Sunday, October 25, 2010 at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Homes in Clarence, MO. Memorials can be made to Monroe Chapel or the Monroe County Cancer Supporters.
