Joseph Sheffield Patton was born on September 27, 1893 to James Francis and Emily Ann Patton on a farm southeast of Caldwell, Kansas. When the Cherokee Strip was opened he moved with his family to a farm homesteaded by his father in Grant Co., Oklahoma.
On June 2, 1917, he was married to Lola E. Tibbits. He moved back to his birthplace when they were married and lived there for 53 years before he retired in Caldwell.
To this union four children were born: James E. Patton, Medford, OK, Lucille Bruey, Caldwell, Laverne Amend, Eudora, KS, and Donald Patton, Caldwell. Other survivors include eleven grand children: James Patton, Ruth Patton Campbell, Lola Jean Patton, Kathryn Bruey Schmidt, Deanna Bruey Norris, Dean Bruey, Gail Bruey, Sarah Amend, Donald Patton, Donna Patton Basinger, and Dennis Patton; and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral service: Central Christian Church, January 2, 1988, at 2:00 p.m.
