A Farmer; he was a long-time Farm Manager for R.A. Pickens & Son Company at Pickens, Arkansas, and resided in this community for 36 years.
He was born February 2, 1910, at Oden, Arkansas and was the son of Edward Joshua Mahurin and the late Katherine Pruitt Mahurin.
C.J., as he was also called, was active in Masonic work, he was a member of Omega Lodge 547 of Dumas and had served as its secretary since 1962 and as Master for two years. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a certified instructor and a member of the Scottish Rites Consistory.
Mr. Mahurin was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church here in Dumas.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Monie Mae Hickey Mahurin; three daughters, Lois Brantley, also a long-time employee as bookkeeper for R.A. Pickens & Son Company, she was married to Kenneth Brantley;Other daughters include, Mrs. W. F. Wilson Jr. of Hope, Arkansas and Mrs. Tommy Ballard of Wilmar, Arkansas; his father, E. J. Mahurin of Dumas; two brothers, Donald Eugene Mahurin of Little Rock and John Mahurin of Dumas, Arkansas; and eight grandchildren. [As of the time of his death in 1972]
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church here with Reverends Robert F. Courtney Jr. and Arnold Simpson officiating the packed house service.
Burial was in Walnut Lake Cemetery in Pickens, Arkansas by Johnson Funeral Home in Dumas.
Pallbearers were, Bill Oldner, Charles Holloway, Elwood Hall, Ross Martin, Bobby Gasaway, Jimmy Frank, Andrew Pickens and Mr. Bert Southard. All Masons were honorary pallbearers. +
