Mary Dean Ledbetter Adkins, 89, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on January 10 at Canterbury Place in Dyersburg. Visitation will be 1:30 with services following at 2:30 Saturday, January 15, at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis with the Rev. Emily Matheny of Highland Heights United Methodist Church, Memphis, officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, Memphis.
Dean was born in Rives, TN, to Noah Lee and Emma Gaskins Ledbetter on April 28, 1921. She graduated from Central High School, Memphis. Dean married Fred Forrest Adkins on May 24, 194 1, at Union Avenue United Methodist Church. She retired from the Admissions Office at the University of Memphis. Dean was involved in East Memphis Garden Club, United Methodist Women, and Lions Club Auxiliary.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Fred Forrest Adkins, Jr. and brothers Norvell C. Ledbetter and Thomas C. Ledbetter.
Dean is survived by daughters, Mary Patricia Haggard (Mrs. Freddy M. Haggard) of Raleigh, NC, and Carol Adkins Miles of Dyersburg, TN; grandchildren Neal Andrew Haggard and his wife Alisa of Holly Springs, NC, Paul David Haggard and his wife Amanda of Murfreesboro, TN, Sarah Miles Foy and her husband Robert of Nashville, TN, and Samuel Forrest Miles of Smyrna, GA; and great-grandchildren Sydney Emeline Haggard and Reilly Forrest Haggard of Holly Springs, NC.
