STANTON - Sharon Marie Newkirk Akers of Halls Road, Stanton, KY, died Dec 24, 2010 at her residence. Born March 14, 1939 she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Stephens Newkirk and the late Allene Greathouse Newkirk. She was a graduate of Berea College with advanced degrees from the University of Kentucky. She was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Upsilon Omicron and Alpha Psi Omega honorary societies. She was the former Library Media Specialist at Bowen Elementary and a past member of the Powell County Library Board. She was also a member of Stanton First Presbyterian Church, Red River Valley Chapter NSDAR and the Kentucky and Powell County retired Teachers Associations. Surviving relatives are her two daughters: Heather Lynn Akers and her husband Seamus Nolan of New York, NY and Melissa Anne and her husband Carroll Lewis (Chip) Wagner III of Roswell, GA and several beloved cousins. Visitation at 6pm Tue, Dec 28, 2010 and her funeral services officiated by Revs. Phillip Pogue and James Harold Combs will be held at 2pm Wed, Dec 29, 2010 at Hearne Funeral Home Inc., 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, KY. Interment will follow in Stanton Cemetery, Main Street, Stanton, KY. Pallbearers are Carroll Lewis (Chip) Wagner III, Seamus Nolan, Jackie Rose, Hybert and Sylvia Atkinson, Euel and Ann Sumner, Mary Carmen Cress, Phyllis and W.J. Noland, Pat Peck, Florine Arthur, Rosalie Dawson, Dorothy Hughes, Thelma Skidmore, Margarita Arnett, Darlene Watson, Annette Billings, Annette Johns and the members of Red River Valley Chapter NSDAR.
