Joseph King O'Neal, 89, retired boatman and Coast Guardsman, died Monday, Mar. 30, 1964, in a Perquimans County nursing home after an illness of 3 years. Born at Avon, he lived in Buxton.

He was the husband of the late Mrs. Sally Ann Miller O'Neal. His parents were Warren Douglas and Mrs. Charity Ann O'Neal.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Sumner Scarborough, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Ebbie Hooper, both of Avon; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted Wednesday in Buxton Methodist Church by the Rev. Wayne Wingfield, pastor, and the Rev. Alvin W. Price of Assembly if God Church in Avon. Burial was in Quidley Cemetery in Buxton.
