Robert Lowell Hostetler, 87, died early Friday morning, February 4, 2011, at Magnified Health and Rehab. A private family prayer service will be set at a later date.

He was born in Farmerstown, Ohio on June 27, 1923 to parents Atlee and Nettie Hostetler. On August 22, 1953 he married Mary E "Beth" Hostetler. A resident of College Station since 1958, Bob worked at Texas A&M University for 23 years in the area of food research, particularly meat tenderness. He earned a bachelor's degree in music from Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana, and a bachelors and masters degree in food research from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana.

Bob was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

Music was always an important part of Bob's life; he sang bass in the Brazos Valley Chorale, tuned pianos, and served as organist in several area churches. He enjoyed playing recorder music with family and friends, who fondly remember his musicianship, his quiet presence, and dry wit.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary E "Beth" Hostetler; daughter, Renee, her husband, Mark Huibregtse; son, Gregory and his wife, Catherine (LeDuc) Hostetler; and granddaughter, Lydia Elizabeth Huibregtse. Bob is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, Joanne Kilmer and her husband, Nelson, Louise Evans, Richard Hostetler and his wife, Helen, and Darrel Hostetler and his wife, Marian.
