J.S. Olds, Pioneer Merchant, Died Last Week

Jess Olds, who for 47 years was a business man of Delphos, passed away at his home here last Friday, May 13 at about 1:00 a.m. in the morning. Jess was active in business circles here until the first of this last year when he sold his clothing store to Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Petree.

Jess was quite well known in the this community as he served numerous terms in many civic organizations and at one time or another he was a member of the fair board, an elder in the Presbyterian Church and held many memberships in other organizations.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday from the Presbyterian Church here in Delphos with the Fouts Funeral Home of Minneapolis in charge of funeral arrangements and the Rev. K.L. Hubler of Minneapolis in charge of the services assisted by the Rev. W. Clyde Wolfe.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Frank White Jr, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Jean Ann Somers.

Pallbearers were Wendel Wilkins, Fred Skinner, A.S. Adams, W.M. Mondt, C.L. Cain and M.A. Dean. Burial was made in Delphos Cemetery.

Jesse Sterling Olds, child of Charles and Mary Frances Olds, was born on January 9, 1876, in Lockport, New York.

When he was 21 years of age he came to Kansas and made his home in Delphos. On July 1, 1903 he was united in marriage with Edith Parrott at Clay Center, Kansas.

Mr. Olds was an elder in the Presbyterian Church for a great number of years, serving faithfully and well at all times.

He departed this life to begin his heavenly sojourn on May 13, 1949, after weeks of illness.

Surviving him are Mrs. Olds, four children, Mildred Fouts of Minneapolis, Charles of Alliance, Ohio, Winifred Gile of Delphos and Agnes Store of Denmark, S. Carolina. Also two brothers, Willis and Edwin of Lockport, and eight grandchildren.
