All children were born in Alabama.
The 1860 Census, Pickens County, Memphis, Shows Zedekiah D. Carroll, age 58, farmer, living with wife, Jane, age 48. Children in household are: Francis D. (Duanlar), 20, Sarah J.,18, Josephene, 16, Henry, 13, Zachariah, 10, Allice, 8, Samuel, 6.
Son Francis Duanlar Carroll was killed in the Battle of Shiloh in 1862 (Civil War) and his mother Jane, died in1864. Both are buried in the Memphis Cemetery.

The 1870 Census, Pickens County, Pickensville P.O., shows Z.D. Carroll age 67, living with second wife Matilda, age 43, born Georgia. Z.D. remarried after the death of first wife Jane in 1864. Children living in household are Sam, son of Z.D. and Jane Carroll and Cicero Spiller, M., age 11 and Alice Spiller, F, age 9, a, children of Matilda by previous marriage.
The 1880 Census of Pickensville, Pickens County, shows Z.D. Carroll, age 78 living with wife, Matilda C., age 55 and stepdaughter Alice age 16.
