Fred "Steve" W. Abbott Jr., a retired Army sergeant, died Dec. 8 at his home. He was 84. Mr. Abbott was born in National Park, N.J., and lived in New Orleans for many years. He served in the Army for 27 years and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf, the European Occupation Medal, the National Defense Medal and the Korean Occupation Medal. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, Miss.
