John Watson - POOLER - John Watson, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2011 at Savannah Hospice House. John was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania on September 11, 1924 but considered himself a native Savannahian. At the age of 18 he graduated from the Hershey School for Boys in Hershey Pennsylvania, and then joined the U.S. Navy and served his country until the end of World War II. He was stationed in Savannah in 1945, married a southern belle, Elizabeth Roughen and raised his family here. After 42 years of dedicated service to the Postal Service he retired and enjoyed the rest of his life living in Pooler, Georgia and being with his family. He is survived by his three daughters, Dianne Haynes and her husband, Larry and Kathy Seagraves of Atlanta, Georgia and Linda Coley and her husband Buford and his son Michael Watson and his wife Jocelyn of Savannah, also many grandchildren, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister. Rosary services will be at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel at Thomas Strickland Funeral Home in Pooler, Georgia followed by visitation in the chapel at 7;00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2011. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah at 11;00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to the Savannah Hospice House.
