Kent Goddard was born on Aug. 27, 1942, in Ada, Okla. He was the son of Kenneth Goddard and Fern Boatwright. He was raised in Carthage, and graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1960.
He and his family have been residents of Carl Junction for the past 35 years. In his earlier years he had a variety of jobs at which he was successful. Kent was an independent insurance agent for 27 years, then a self-employed contractor for approximately 35 years. For several years he coached his girls' softball teams. Kent loved to play golf. He was an avid train collector and he never met a stranger. Kent was a member of the Carl Junction United Methodist Church.
Kent passed away at 12:45 a. m. March 30, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife, the former Sharon Hargrave, to whom he was married on June 1, 1963, at the First Baptist Church, Carthage.
Kent is also survived by three daughters, Kari Most and husband, Mike, Kim Boyer and husband, Gil and Krista McClelland and husband, Robert, all of Carl Junction, Mo.; one brother, John Boatwright and wife, Sharon; two sisters, Noline Davenport and husband, Larry and Carol Owens; and six grandchildren, Zack and Karli Most, Emily and Luke Boyer, Kayla and Derek McClelland. Kent is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Fern; and one brother, James Lee Goddard.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 1, at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Contributions may be given in lieu of flowers to the Leukemia foundation of the National Kidney foundation in care of Ulmer Funeral Home.
