Rose Ann Hymer, age 85 of Joplin, Mo., began her new journey at 6:00 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2011 after a three year illness.

Rose was born of German immigrants, William and Margaret Jacoby in Windsor, Colorado on September 29, 1925.

After graduating from Windsor High School in 1942, Rose traveled to Portland, Oregon. As a member of ‘The Greatest Generation', Rose contributed to the war effort working on ‘Liberty Ships'. There, she met her future husband, Clyde Hymer, Jr.

After the war, they returned to the Joplin area and were married in Columbus, Kansas on September 19, 1945. Rose and Clyde raised three sons and a daughter. Clyde passed on December 6, 1998 and Gregory, her youngest son, passed away on February 2, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Jane Lant (Bill) of Joplin; two sons, Larry Hymer (Jennifer) of Joplin, Dennis Hymer (Tina) of Strafford, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Della Corp and Deanie Hymer, both of Joplin; ten grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Everyone that knew Rose will tell of the really great lady that she was. She never complained about anything, even during the worse days of her illness. She was always ‘pretty good', or, ‘things could be worse', she would say. Courageous, loyal, honest, generous are only a few words to describe our mother. We will miss her dearly!

Services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Her nephew, Randy Corp, will officiate at the service. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Aaron Hymer, Craig Lant, Steve Lant, Will Lant, Matt Hymer, Chris Hymer and Jacob Hymer. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Regional Medical Center Hospice Group, in care of Parker Mortuary.

The family would like to thank Dr. Skelley, his staff and the hospice group at St. John's Regional Medical Center for the care that they showed to Rose.
