Ivan Atkinson, 1927-2015

Ivan Blaine Atkinson, age 88 of Harrison, passed away Friday, April 24 (2015), at his home in Harrison, Arkansas.

The son of Elzie and Elza Atkinson was born on March 2, 1927. Ivan was a founding member and elder of Silver Valley Church. He was a WWII veteran of the US Navy, enlisting when he was 17 years old. He was aboard the Commander Ship, USS Wasatch. He was a former construction worker and farmer. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, nature, and picking wild flowers. He loved the Lord and his family with all his heart.

38 years ago Papa Ivan and Granny Billie started a family tradition of having an annual pig roast at Silver Valley Community Church. This community fellowship event helps support the Milam Cemetery at Silver Valley Church and the Bethany Cemetery. Papa Ivan handed over this tradition to his son, S. Atkinson and family. This Saturday, May 2nd at 5:30 pm will kick off the 38th Annual Atkinson fish fry. Sunday, May 3rd at 1 pm will be the Atkinson Pig Roast in memory of both Papa Ivan and Granny Billie.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Billie Atkinson, his parents, his step mother Lucy Atkinson, his brother Joseph Gene Atkinson.

Survivors are his wife of 10 ½ years E.A., of the home; his brother, and his 3 sisters; his children; 24 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 29th from 5 to 7 pm at Holt Memorial Chapel. Service will be at 10 am Thursday, April 30, at Silver Valley Church with R. Stromlund and L. Mills officiating. Burial will follow the service in Milam Cemetery.

Pall bearers will be M. Atkinson, J. Clayborn, B. Olsen, B. Olsen, R. Mahler, T. Eldridge, A. Rose, D. Baughman, and W. Daniels. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Mahlon Maris, MD; Dr. Charles Klepper, MD; Judy Tevebaugh, APN; Amy and all the nurses as well as all the staff at Main Street Medial Clinic; Hospice of the Hills and Robert Burr.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Milam Cemetery Fund or Bethany Cemetery funds at 2551 Clover Lane, Harrison, AR 72601, or Hospice of the Hills.
