William P. Littlefield was a son of Fleming Littlefield and Mildred T. Satterwhite Littlefield and a brother to Texas cattle baron and financier, George W. Littlefield. On September 11, 1871, he married Euphemia K. Mathieu in Gonzales County, Texas. About 1884 he and his family moved to the Roswell area where Littlefield's cousin, James Phelps White, Sr., managed the vast Grande Bosque Ranch holdings of G.W. Littlefield in Eastern New Mexico. The couple had six children.
