George Oren Peckham, of Ballston Spa, aged 53 years, was instantly killed this morning by being struck by the pile of the south bound locomotive of the Schenectady train, due at Ballston Spa at 8:02 o’clock, at a point about a half mile south of the Dry Bridge.

Peckham was walking on the track towards Ballston Spa, and in consequence of the thick fog, he was not seen by Engineer Miller until the moment of the collision. His body was cast into the drifts and on inspection it was found that his neck and legs were broken.

The train was stopped and by direction of Inspection King of the Saratoga Police, a trainman was left with the body until the arrival of Dr. Royal, the coroner’s physician, and Undertaker Carter from Ballston Spa. The body was then conveyed to the latter’s room where Coroner McCarty will hold an inquest.

Peckham was the oldest son of the late George W. Peckham of Ballston Spa, and was a man of extremely dissipated habits. His wife died several years since.

His last appearance in the courts was as the plaintiff in the partition of his father’s estate. He is survived by two brothers and five sisters.
