Merle was born in 1893 to John Burr & Nellie Foster. In 1894, her father died & Nellie was a widow at 25yrs. Nellie's (adopted) parents, Cyrus & Malinda Foster helped raise Merle. The 1900 & 1910 show Merle with Cyrus & Malinda Foster. Her mother remarried to John Bennett. Merle married Ward Housel, a widower, in 1912, aged 19. The adopted a daughter. He died in 1948 & she remarried to George Gunter, another widower. Merle & her husbands made trips to Ingham County Michigan to visit the Foster & Webster relatives of her grandparents.
