CLARKSVILLE - Hallie "Tutta" Townes, 99, of the Lone Star community, passed away from this life on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Paris Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday June 15, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with the Rev. Timothy Horton officiating. Burial is to follow in Bogata Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The family receives friends an hour before service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born May 3, 1912, in Red River County, to Richard Mack and Jewel Hicks Townes.
Best known to all of her loved ones as "Tutta," she was regarded as a most honorable and Godly woman. She was more than a homemaker; she was a caretaker and mother to all her family. She embodied the life of a virtuous woman: "Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom: and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness ... Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31:25-31
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Rubin, Dillon and Dee Townes; and one sister, Betty Lou Horton.
She leaves behind one sister, Paulene Townes; one brother, Earl Townes; two nieces, Jewel Alice Cox and Margaret Ann Rhea; four nephews, Ben Townes, Don Horton, Kenneth Horton and Tim Horton; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Ross Eilers, Jeff Goodman, Jody Street, Randy Rhea, Justin Townes and Harold Rhea.
