U.S. Congressman. A Unionist, he was elected to represent Tennessee's 4th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving in the 37th Congress from 1861 to 1863. Though never officially enlisted, he served as a doctor/surgeon for the 9th Kentucky Infantry (Union) and the 1st Tennessee Mounted Infantry (Union) during the later part of the Civil War. Tennessee State Legislator from 1866 to 1867. He was a doctor, practicing in Lafayette, Tennessee, and later Glasgow, Kentucky.
