Commander Leon Mills, Age 79, Dies in Florida

Retired Navy Commander Leon William Mills died Saturday morning, June 24, 1972 in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Born June 2, 1893 in Chicago, Il., he was married first to Maria Helen Smith of Chicago, Il, second wife, Mamie Bell Robertson of North Carolina and last to the former Annis Myrtle Barker of Sandy Creek, New York. Commander Mills served in the Navy from 1910-1946. He served in World War I, World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring after 36 years in the service.
He is survived by his wife Annis and the children from his first marriage: Leon Mills,Jr of Chicago, Il, Eugene Mills of Lakeland, Fl. and Robert Mills of Gainsville, Fl. Three sisters: Mrs. Hattie Fickert and Mrs. Mabel Whelan of Fl and Mildred Russell of Torrance, Ca.
The funeral for Commander Mills was held at 2pm Tuesday, June 27, 1972 at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, with Rev. Richard Clay, pastor of St. James Episcopal church officiating. Bural was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek, New York
