Glenn Howard Talbot
Glenn Howard Talbot, 82, of Mallard Pointe in Cedar Rapids and formerly of Rome, died at home Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000 of natural causes.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec 19, at Garden View Chapel in Waterloo. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball in Waterloo and from 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, until the time of the service at Garden View Chapel. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo with full graveside military rites by American Legion Post #138 and VFW Post #1623. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Mr. Talbot was born June 12, 1918 in Mediapolis, the son of Glenn Earl and Winnifred Young Talbot. He married Evelyn R. Christner on Oct. 12, 1946 in Minnesota. He worked at John Deere for 37 years, retiring in 1977. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the European theater during World War II. He served on the Rome City Council for 15 years where a park bearing his name is being built in his honor.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Luther Talbot of Mt. Pleasant and Lee Talbot of Oskaloosa; two daughters, Wanda Wood and Sharon Ferch, both of Waterloo; a brother, Leo Talbot of Mt. Union; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dorothy McMartin, and a great-grandson.
