William Samuel "Sam" Christian Jr. ABINGDON, Va. William Samuel "Sam" Christian Jr., 62, passed away at home on Monday, July 4, 2011, due to complications of Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was born Sept. 5, 1948, and was raised in Bradshaw, W.Va. Sam was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had also served with the Army National Guard. He led an active lifestyle, which included a passion for riding motorcycles and woodworking. He was a master electrician, had served with the sheriff's department and as chief of police in Ames, Iowa, had worked at the Pentagon and also as a private investigator. Sam was also a member and deacon at Abingdon Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, William Samuel "Bill" Christian Sr. Survivors include his wife, Terry Smith Christian; his mother, Evelyn Christian of Bradshaw; daughters, Brandi Judkins and husband, Wayne, of Webster City, Iowa, Kasey Abdelhadi and husband, Nasser, of Roanoke, Va. and Holly Stroner of Webster City; two sisters, Debbie Rose and husband, Mike, of White Oak, W.Va. and Christy Visser and husband, Bill, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two brothers, Dave Christian and wife, Dee, of Newport News, Va. and Michael Christian and wife, Terri, of Bristol, Va.; five grandchildren, Tucker Judkins, Charlotte Judkins, Noah Abdelhadi, Noel Stroner and Emma Stroner; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Abingdon Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Steven Pollard officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Members of Highlands Veterans Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, deacons, ushers and members of the Harry Denton Sunday school class at Abingdon Baptist Church, Bruce Hicks, Dave Whitledge, Perry Whitledge and Derek Jones. Military honors will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. The family will be receiving friends at Farris Funeral Service from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Samaritan's Purse at Abingdon Baptist Church or to the ALS Association, 7507 Standish Place, Rockville, MD 20855.
