Mr. Wilkey was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Gus and Hazel Mitchell Wilkey. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of New Morgan Hill Baptist Church. He was a former driver for Peebles Oil Co. and Walls and Marshall Oil Co.
He is survived by his special friend, Irene Guy; four sisters, Rebecca Edwards of Canton, Frances Whitted of Candler, Bobbie Ann Johnson of Asheville, and Alice Morgan and her husband Clayton of Candler; a brother, Lloyd Wilkey and his wife Ruth of Enka; several nieces and nephews and a long-time friend, D.G.
