J. Maynard Hummel, formerly of North Canton and most recently of Copeland Oaks, died at 3:15 p.m. Monday at Copeland Oaks following a long illness.

He and his family were operators of the North Canton Variety Store for many years.

Born at Walnut Creek, June 6, 1899, to the late A.A. and Sopha Mast Hummel, he was a resident of the North Canton area since 1922. He was a member of the North Canton Community Christian Church.

He and his wife, the former Nellie Stroup, celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary last Saturday.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, two brothers, and three grand-daughters.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Connie Miller and a brother, Myron Hummel.
