1929 - 2011

Robert E. "Bob" Fannin 82, Fairborn, OH., peacefully and gently departed this life Saturday, September 10, 2011, while taking his afternoon nap at his home.

Robert was born January 15, 1929, in Eldridge, Kentucky, (now Isonville).

Robert (Bob) retired from General Motors, Dayton, Ohio after 30 years in 1977 as a quality control inspector. His primary mission and calling in life was to serve his church family and his Appalachian people as a minister, counselor and advocate for fifty plus years. He was pastor of the Fairborn Enterprise Baptist Church, 1614 Stewart Street, Fairborn from 1971 -1982. Robert also served as the pastor at the Christiansburg, Ohio, Enterprise Baptist Church from 1959 - 1961, and Assistant Pastor from 1964 - 1967. He was also the pastor of a mission church on Valley Street, Dayton, Ohio from 1961-1963. He served as an Elder and Board member of the Enterprise Association of Regular Baptists and attended many Associations and Union Meetings at member churches. He served as a member of the Fairborn City Betterment Committee throughout the 1970's and advocated for curbs to be built in Wright View. He and his family traveled the tri-state region and he held revivals in both Elliott and Morgan County, Kentucky, in East Chicago, Indiana and throughout Ohio. Stories and music played an important part in his life; he played the guitar and piano and sang both hymns and traditional music daily at home and at church. He had an excellent memory and could quote extensive scripture and entire chapters of the Bible by heart. Robert became ill in1978 and had to retire from active ministry in 1982. Even though he struggled with several serious health issues including Parkinson's disease, he continued to advise and provide support to the current pastors and elders of the church for many years.

He was preceeded in death by his parents Oscar and Mary Maude (Lewis) Fannin of Isonville, Ky. and seven brothers and sisters.

Robert is survived by his wife of sixty one years, Viola Bentley Fannin, Fairborn, and four children, Tess - Teresa, (James R.) Little, Fairborn; Enoch (Bob) Fannin, (Sue Miller ), Fairborn, Betty (David Keith) Fyffe, Muscatine, Iowa, Ruth Fannin, Fairborn, eight grandchildren, Bridgitte Fannin, Jessica Fyffe, Amy Fannin, Athena Fannin, Beth Trent, Russell (Carolyn) Little, Rebecca, (Mark) Wells and Alice (Scott) Hughes, and thirteen great-grandchildren, two brothers, Delbert Fannin, Ashland, Ky., and Denzil Rodney Fannin, Sandy Hook, Ky., and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 16,2011, Both will be held at the Fairborn Enterprise Baptist Church 1614 Stewart Blvd, Fairborn, OH., with Pastors Bobby Jenkins and Mark Long officiating. Interment will be at Byron Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2011.
