Harold Leroy "Shorty" Cartright, 77, 3806 Wisconsin Ave., died at 5 p.m. Saturday at a local nursing home after a long illness.

Mr. Cartright was born June 22, 1912, in Newton County, and was a lifelong Joplin area resident. He retired in 1969 as an agent for the truck lines of Frisco Transportation Co. after more than 30 years with the company. After his retirement, he worked for Motor Electric Co., Joplin, for several years.

He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, Fellowship Masonic Lodge No. 345 AF&AM and Scottish Rite Bodies of the Valley of Joplin.

He married Leora Lucille Whitworth on October 19, 1933 in Joplin. She passed away July 28, 1970 in Joplin.

He then married Violet L. Willis Trussell on February 1, 1973 in Miami, Oklahoma.

He is survived by his wife Violet, sons Gary Cartright of Joplin, Galen Cartright of Oklahoma, Joyce Campbell of Missouri, Ronald Gene Cartright from Snowflake, Arizona. A stepson William Trussell of California, a stepdaughter Linda Ingram of Arkansas, 24 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

A son Robert Cartright of Arizona preceded him in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Fellowship Baptist Church. The Rev. John Sherwood and Phillip McClendon will officiate. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by Fellowship Lodge at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

Arrangements are under direction of Parker Mortuary.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Cartright, Kevin Cartright, Ellis Cartright, Chris Doerge, Steve Campbell and Craig Ingram.

Contributions may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church bus fund in care of 2827 E. 82nd St., Joplin, Missouri 64804.
