US Congressman, US Senator. Served in the United States Army during the War of 1812. Elected to represent Kentucky's 3rd District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1835 to 1843. Also served as Member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives from 1816 to 1819, 1825 to 1826, and 1861 to 1863, Candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky in 1828, Judge of the Kentucky Court of Appeals from 1828 to 1835, Presidential Elector from Kentucky in 1844, and United States Senator from Kentucky from 1847 to 1853.
