US Congressman. Served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Elected to represent Kentucky's 2nd District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1877 to 1883. Also served as a Member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives in 1867, Secretary of the State of Kentucky in 1884, and United States Minister to Peru in 1893.
