DEATH OF MRS. CHEW. SURVIVES HER LATE HUSBAND BUT SHORT TIME. Has Been Resident of Houston for 64 Years and Was a Native of This City.
The death of Mrs. Julia A. Chew, wife of the late Captain F. F. Chew, occurred yesterday afternoon at 3:40 o'clock at her residence, 1216 Dallas avenue. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 4 o'clock from the home, with interment in Glenwood cemetery. Since the death of her husband on May 6 of this year Mrs. Chew has gradually failed in health and her death now is due primarily to grief over the loss of her husband. Mrs. Chew was a daughter of Nathan Fuller, one of the early mayors of Houston. She was born in this city sixty-four years ago, and has since made it her home. She was married to Captain Chew prior to the civil war and the couple lived happily together until death claimed the husband, and now, in less than four months, Mrs. Chew passes away. Mrs. Chew is survived by her two sons, E. T. Chew and Beverly Chew, and two daughters, Miss Annie Beth Chew and Mrs. A. S. Le Craft, all of this city. The pallbearers who have been selected to act are: Honorary -- W. C. Oliver, F. S. Burke, G. W. Tharp and James H. Berry. Active -- A. E. Amerman, John S. Stewart, Presley K. Ewing, F. M. Poland, C. E. Ashe and Norman G. Kittrell, Sr.
