Mr. Rote had been a barber for some 70 years, beginning this trade in his native town, Kirkland,in 1890, then working in that field for two years at Monroe Center prior to moving to Sycamore in 1894, where he owned and operated his own barber
shop for 64 years, retiring a couple of years ago. He was friendly to everyone and will be greatly missed by many in the main thoroughfare, also in his home. He was born on a farm near Kirkland August 17, 1874, the son of Hickson and Hannah Ault Rote. Growing up in that area, he attended the schools there, until his father's death when he and his mother came to Sycamore, he being 14 years of age, and completed his schooling here, returning to Kirkland in 1890.
In 1892, he was married to Julia Moon of Kirkland, her death occurring in 1942. His second marriage, to Mrs. Anna Thompson of Sycamore, took place in December of 1943.
