Carl Anderson Rites Held at Middle River
Funeral services for Carl M. (Andy) Anderson, 72, of Middle River, were held Thursday at 2:00 p.m., at the First Lutheran church in Middle River. Anderson had been in failing health for the past several years. He died Monday morning, April 25, at Northwestern hospital in Thief River Falls.
Rev. Donald Fredine officiated at the services. Music was provided by Jim Gjovik, soloist, Mrs. Roy Gjovik, accompanist, and Mrs. Floyd Peterson, organist. Interment was in the church cemetery with the Collins Funeral home, Middle River, in charge of arrangements.
Honorary pallbearers were Herman Young, Melvin Griffin, Archie Prosser, Cy Glass, Gerald Carrier, Howard Young, Rodney Hallquist and Mannie Moen.
Active pallbearers were Laverne and Merlyn Adamson, Dale Anderson, Wally Anderson, Corky Anderson and Skip Newland.
Carl M. (Andy) Anderson, a son of the late Gotfred and Hilda Anderson, was born Dec. 30, 1910 in Spruce Valley township of Marshall county, near Middle River. At the age of seven years, he moved with his family into Middle River. There he attended school and grew into manhood. Following the completion of his schooling, he worked on road construction and was employed for a few years as section laborer for the Great Northern railroad before going into his own business at Strathcona.
On June 9, 1940, he was married at Strathcona to Nellie Ornquist. Since then, they have lived at Middle River where he purchased a tavern in 1949. He operated that business until his retirement in 1973.
He was a member of the First Lutheran church of Middle River.
