Betty was born Aug. 10, 1926, in Sioux City, to Otto and Lena (Winter) Dinkel. She attended Central High School.
Betty was married to Lester Johnson on June 30, 1951, in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1984, in Sioux City. Betty worked for 20 years at Wincharger and Zenith, where she was very active in the union, serving as a union steward. She later worked as a clerk for Western Hills Area Education Agency for 14 years and retired in 1996.
Betty enjoyed cooking, especially Christmas candy and cookies; being a pen pal; and the company of her dog, Maggie. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Paula Hinkel and fiance, Pieter Breitner of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; her son, Steven (Dorine Murad-Johnson) Johnson of Sioux City; sister, Lois Choquette of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Libby Vriezelaar and twins, Hannah and Lexie Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Parker, and Chloe Vriezelaar.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Robert Dinkel and Glen Dinkel.
