Mary Leonard Clevenger, age 88, of Norman, passed away January 13, 2004 in Norman. Mary was born in El Reno, OK on May 30, 1915 to Mike and Averil (Roberts) Leonard. She grew up in El Reno and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy at the top of her class. She then went to the three year nursing program at St Anthony's School of Nursing in Oklahoma City and became an outstanding registered nurse.
Mary married Warren T Clevenger in Edmond, OK on December 25, 1938. They lived in Oklahoma City and then moved to Enid in 1954. She was known as an excellent, compassionate nurse during her many years of service. Warren passed away in June of 1985.
Mary moved to Edmond in 2000 and lived at a retirement village until May of 2003. She then moved to Norman to be closer to her daughter. She was a member of the Church of Christ all her adult life. She was a volunteer at the Bass Hospital in Enid and held all of the offices of the OSU Extension Homemakers Club in Enid. Mary served in many other organizations and was involved in many church activities.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Averil Leonard; husband, Warren Clevenger; and a brother, John Leonard. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou; a sister, Louise Ringle of OH; a brother, Bob Leonard; grand-daughter, Christine; and two great-granddaughters, Ashley and Lauren.
