BUSKIRK, N.Y. - David Henry Moon, Sr., 72, a native of Bennington, died at the Albany Medical Center Hospital at 4:45 am today from self-inflicted wounds in the forehead with a .25 caliber rifle Wednesday night, according to state police.
State police from the Salem outpost responded to a call at his home and the BCI of Glens Falls is continuing its investigation. Mr. Moon was first taken to Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge and later transferred to Albany.
The body is at Leo J. Mahar Funeral Home, Hoosick Falls, where services are pending.
A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Moon, he had resided in Buskirk most of his life. He was a former millwright and had recently been employed in Valley Falls.
Survivors are his wife, the former Agnes Young; two sons, John and William of Buskirk; two daughters, Mrs. Agnes Telford and Mrs. Mildred Trombley, also of Buskirk; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

BUSKIRK, N.Y. - The funeral of David Henry Moon Sr., 72, of R. D. Buskirk, who died Thursday in Albany Medical Center of a gunshot wound in the forehead, will be held at 2 pm Saturday at the Leo J. Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls. Interment will be in Island Hill Cemetery here.
Police said the wound was inflicted with a .25 caliber rifle. They said Mr. Moon had been under the care of a physician. Albany County Coroner Leo L. Sorel is witholding a decision pending further investigation.
Besides two sons and two daughters he is survived by a brother William Moon of Bennington.
