Biological mother was Emily Caroline "Callie" Ray but she lived with her adopted parents Levi M. Southern and his second wife Mattie. She got along well with her adopted father Levi but not with her adopted mother Mattie.
Jeanette grew up in Mineral Wells, Texas.
Ex-husband: Julious Alfred Jones (father of Carolyn & Bette)
When Jeanette got married to Julious it was a troubled marriage that was on and off again a few times while they lived in Amarillo, Texas. In that time she had Carolyn in 1930 (on April 28 same as her birthday) and then a few years later another daughter Bette. When Julious left them once and for all (in 1934) she and her daughters moved in with her biological mother Emily and her husband (Jeanette's stepfather) Charles W Baker's house who also lived in Amarillo, Texas. This is why people confuse that Carolyn was born Carolyn Sue Baker when really she was born Carolyn Sue Jones (as stated on her birth certificate).
When Jeanette's daughter Carolyn Jones became famous in Hollywood in the early fifties she moved her mother and sister (Jeanette & Bette) out to California to be close to her. When Jeanette became very sick with cancer in the spring of 1979 her daughter Carolyn moved her in to live with her in her West Hollywood house to make her last months as comfortable as possible. Jeanette died of Pancreatic cancer on Nov. 16, 1979 and is buried with her daughter Carolyn (who died four years later). She is buried with her daughter Carolyn in the same crypt and right next to (to the left of) the crypt of her mother Emily and her stepfather Charles W. Baker.
