Cecil Henry Shellady was born January 15, 1919, at home in rural Louisa County, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Nora (Crim) Shellady. He completed his elementary and high school years in Williamsburg, graduating in 1937. He married Venita Fuller October 31, 1941 in Shreveport, Louisiana. The couple lived here for a short time before Cecil left to serve his country in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. Upon returning from service, he was reunited with his wife, and they returned to Williamsburg.
Cecil joined his brothers and father in their family grocery business. Eventually, Cecil took over the store which changed from "Shellady & Sons" to "Shellady's By Lo". In 1967 he sold the store and the couple moved to Iowa City. Here he worked for a number of years before retiring.
Cecil was a member of the Williamsburg V.F.W.; he enjoyed traveling, playing cards, was an avid sports fan, and had a special attachment to family pets, but most of all his love for his family through the many family outings, holiday gatherings, and time together will always be remembered and cherished.
His family includes his wife, Venita; daughter and her husband, Julie Hocker and Dennis of Williamsburg; two sons and their wives, Craig Shellady and Kathleen of Kalona, and Kent Shellady and Connie of Cape Fair, MO; six granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren [named in the obituary].
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Roy and Robert Shellady and a sister, Mable Kral. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Cecil's family and his services.
