A. Max Mitchell, 83, Flora, died at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Wood Bridge Health Campus, Logansport. He was born Dec. 15, 1925, in Howard County to Dale C. and Edith (Hendrix) Mitchell. He Married Mary C. (Marburger) on Aug. 28, 1949, in Peru, and she survives.

He retired after 42 years as an engineer at Conrail Railroad Co. He was also an avid farmer most of his life.

He was a member of Burlington First Brethren Church, Tipton Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 33 in Logansport, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine of Indianapolis, Logansport Shrine Club and Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge and American Legion, all of Logansport, and the United Transportation Union.

He is survived by his wife; two children, Phil (Jackie) Mitchell, Logansport, and Patty (Steve) Wilkinson, McCordsville; four grandchildren, Mark C. (Rayme) Mitchell, Krysti (Paul) Scislowski, Emily (Jason) House and Brett Wilkinson; five great grandchildren and one sister, Susanne Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Martha Jane Turnpaugh.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the Burlington First Brethren Church, 205 8th St., Burlington. Dr. Peter Roussakis will officiate. Burial will follow in Burlington Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Stout & Son Funeral Home Neptune Chapel, 44 Michigan St., Burlington. A Masonic service is also planned for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
