Born in Buford, he was the son of the late Price and Mae Gower Kimbro. He was retired from American Cyanamid after 31 years where he worked as a computer operator. He was a graduate of Buford High School, Class of 1955 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Buford. For over 30 years, Gene was the Voice of the Wolves, and served on the Buford City School Board for 21 years.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, JoAnn Kimbro of Buford; son and daughter-in-law, David and Beth Kimbro of Buford; daughter, Andrea Kimbro of Buford; 4 grandchildren, Aislynn Kimbro, Ashley Kimbro, Caitlin Kimbro, and Logan Kimbro; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and CJ Mathis of Sugar Hill; Wilma and Jerry Smith of Loganville; brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Gladys Kimbro of Buford; several nieces and nephews.
