LeRoy Lian, 79, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at his home in rural Gatzke, MN.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke, with Rev. Cheryl Berg officiating. Interment followed at Landstad Cemetery in rural Gatzke, MN.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation was also held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

Kenneth LeRoy Lian was born on September 26, 1932 on a farm in Moose River Township, Marshall County, MN, the son of Herman and Ethel (Johnson) Lian. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Gatzke. LeRoy attended school at the District 82 North School in Gatzke.

LeRoy worked for various farmers. He moved to Minneapolis to work, and in 1952, he enlisted in the United States Navy. In 1956, he was honorably discharged. From 1958 until 1992, LeRoy lived and worked in California. He moved back to the Gatzke area in 1992 to enjoy retirement. That year he also reunited with his special friend, Darlene Swagger. The couple made their home at their "Little House on the Prairie" in rural Gatzke, and have lived there ever since.

LeRoy enjoyed his retirement. He and Darlene spent a lot of time camping, fishing, and dancing. LeRoy was an avid bowler, and loved to play cards. Visiting with his friends and family was something that he always looked forward to. Classic Country music was LeRoy's favorite.

He is survived by his fiancee, Darlene Swagger of Gatzke and her two sons, Brad and Jeff; sister and brothers: Marvel (Arvin) Dahl of Gatzke, Erling (Mary) Lian of Thief River Falls, Keith (Linda) Lian of Blaine; Many special nieces and nephews. He is also survived by several cousins, relatives, and friends.

Preceding LeRoy in death are his parents, and his sister, JoJean.
