David M. Curnutte, 84, well-known resident,died at his home at 124 Rice Street, at 7 a.m. Monday after an illness of three years. He formerly lived at Irad, Ky.
He was born in Carter county, December 31, 1870, a son of the late William and Nancy Carroll Curnutte.
He had been a member of the Methodist Church for 70 years. He served as tax commissioner of Lawrence County for 12 years and served for a number of years as police judge of Louisa.
Funeral Services were conducted Wendesday at 2 p.m. at the Freewill Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Perry and the Rev. W. W. Boggs officiated. Burial was made in Pine Hill Cemetery. The body was taken from The Curtright Funeral Home to the residence at 11 a.m. Tuesday and removed to the church one hour preceding the funeral services.
Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Sue Adams Curnutte; five daughters, Mrs. W.H. Burton, Mrs. Morris McGuire, Mrs. Lonnie S. Hunter, all of Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. Kelley King of Zanesville, Ohio, Mrs. Jessie D. Lyon of Louisa; five sons, Harl, Carl, and Ray Curnutte, all of Columbus; Clyde and William L. Curnutte, both of Ironton, Ohio; 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

My grandmother, Sue Mains, stated that her grandfather, David M Curnutte always wore white starched shirts, always immaculate. He also loved to read and was always carrying a book. He was not too fond of children.
