Harrison was born in Georgia, his parents are unknown except that they were both also born in Georgia.

In Boone County, Missouri on January 22, 1829, he married Prisha (or Paulia) Little.

In 1842 in Boone County, Missouri, Harrison married widow Eleanor McGuire (nee Berry) Little. He helped to raise her children, John Monroe Little, Eliza Julia Little and Mary Ellen Little.

The children of Harrison and Eleanor were

Manilus Thompson Jones,
Morton C. Jones,
Samira "Ann" Jones,
Monterey Cortez Jones,
Victoria Jones, and
Alice C. Jones.

So intrigued by Gold Rush stories happening in California in 1849, he left for the Sutter's Mill area to try his luck with finding gold. Alas, he returned to Boone County, Missouri and continued farming.

Harrison became a widow in May of 1863. He married for a third time in March of 1864 to Margaret Cox.
