He was born in the Delbarton area, a son of Lewis and Betty Farley Varney, both deceased. He was never married.
At the time of his death, Dow was survived by four brothers; Tom, Wallace, Henry, and James; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Estep Cisco and Mrs. Jane Fillinger.
Final rites for Dow Varney were conducted at the Delbarton United Baptist Church with the Revs. J. A. Maynard and W. H. Compton officiating. Interment followed in the Varney Cemetery at Ragland with Chafin Funeral Home in charge.
