Grandson of Elijah Place (born in the United States) and Sarah Kennedy Bachelor Place and of Benjamin Burton and Mary Pye Burton (both of Norfolk, England).
Brother of John Alexander Place (Wife, Clara Springstead), Robert Thomas Place (who died at one year of age), William Elijah Place (Wife, Susan Pyott Place and later, Margaret Elizabeth Burton Place) and Thomas Davidson Place (Wife, Elizabeth Matilda Hill, the Mother of his children; 2nd Wife, Harriett E. Garrity Place).
Beloved Husband of Martha Ann "Annie" Gilders Place, whom he married on June 19, 1889 in Stoney Creek, Wentworth, Ontario.
Edward and Annie were the parents of six children: Celia Irene Place (Mrs. John Abraham Lucas), Wilfred Alexander Place (Wife, Lula Patterson), Alice Matilda Place (Mrs. Edward James Parker), Charles Samuel Place, Edward Burton Place (who died at 6 days of age of convulsions, in 1901) and Florence Edna Place (Mrs. Robert Franklin Taylor).
Edward worked as a Carpenter and, in his later years, as a Mechanic.
In early 1910 Edward's beloved Wife, Annie, passed away; the following year, his oldest daughter married and the young couple lived with Edward and the other children.
On October 14, 1912 Edward Nelson Place married Anna Belle Jewell, at a lavish wedding in Hamilton, Ontario; his two sons were his Groomsmen.
World War I was raging; On 14 August 1918 Edward's son Charles was "Killed-In-Action" in Rouen France, while serving with the 14th Battalion in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, during the Battle of Amiens.....Charles was 21 years old.
Only days later, on 28 August 1918 Edward's nephew Harry (his brother Thomas' son) was reported "Missing -In-Action" (his status was later changed to "Killed-In-Action") while in another part of France during the same battle....he was serving with the 19th Battalion of the Canada Expeditionary Force.....Harry was 23 years old.
Edward was now a Grandfather.... his daughter Celia had presented him with a Granddaughter and his daughter Alice (who had married Ted Parker in 1914) presented him with two Grandsons before immigrating to the U.S. and then presenting Edward with a third Grandson in 1924, born in California. Daughters Celia and Edna remained in Canada; even though Daughter Alice lived in California, she often returned for visits. Son Wilfred had also immigrated to the United States with his wife.
Edward Nelson Place died October 4th, 1925 in Ancaster, Wentworth, Ontario from a Heart Attack....he was 56 years old.
Edward is buried alongside his second wife, Anna Belle, in Norfolk, Charlotteville.
